The Chief Radiation Therapist schedules
and supervises the staff radiation therapists as they apply ionizing
radiation to the patient in accordance with the prescription and
instructions of the radiation oncologist. May perform staff RT(T)
duties as required

Essential
Functions/ Major Responsibilities: |

Supervise and train the Staff Radiation Therapists
as they:
Perform simulation/tumor localization procedures, and effectively communicates
procedure to patient.
Take photos of the patient and the treatment field(s), draws treatment
field diagrams, and precisely records information into the patient medical record.
Tattoo the prescribed treatment area after films are approved by the radiation
oncologist.
Prepare the treatment room and equipment for patients according to the
prescription: field size, treatment distance, shielding, immobilization devices,
etc.
Prepares beam shaping blocks and immobilizing molds for various anatomical
parts.
Accurately deliver the prescribed, planned course of radiation therapy
with minimal supervision.
Check for correct patient and chart identification, diagnosis, and treatment
prescription.
Carry out routine dosimetry on all patients and confers with the physics
staff regarding complex dosimetry functions or computerized treatment planning.
Maintain daily treatment records in treatment sheet.
Take weekly port films for treatment field verification on patients.
Responsible for the linear accelerator warm up and all daily operation
checks prior to patient treatment.
Maintain a check on the proper performance of the linear accelerator and
notifies the service representative of any problems with the equipment.
Recognize signs of treatment complications and knows when to withhold treatment
until the physician is consulted.
Observe and practice radiation safety standards with patients, co-workers,
and any other person(s) who may visit the office from time to time.
Responsible for maintaining ARRA standards and codes, assuring that all
necessary log books and licenses are updated, accurate and properly displayed.
